Obstetrics and Gynaecology

The Obstetric & Gynaecology Unit consists of Wards, Early Pregnancy Unit, Maternity Day (assessment) Unit, Gynaecology Theatres, Gynaecology outpatient Clinics, Delivery suite, Fylde Coast Birth Centre and Ambulatory Suite for Colposcopy and Outpatient Hysteroscopy.

There are 8 consultants with special interests in:

  • Benign Gynaecology disorders e.g. menstrual disorders, infertility
  • Early Pregnancy And Emergency Gynaecology
  • Minimally Invasive Procedures (Laparoscopy, Hysteroscopy)
  • Ambulatory Gynaecology (Hysteroscopy, Colposcopy)
  • Gynaecology Oncology
  • Urogynaecology
  • Fetal and Maternal Medicine
  • High Risk Obstetrics
  • Medical Education

FY2 trainees will undertake duties as follows:

  • Participate in unselected on call shift system
  • History taking, investigation and management of acute Obstetric and Gynaecological patients under close supervision
  • Assist in Theatre and delivery suite
  • Attendance at Obstetric and Gynaecological Outpatient clinics and sub-specialty clinics
  • Undertake routine ward work including pre-operative assessment, etc
  • Attendance at Directorate Teaching sessions
  • Attendance at Directorate Audit meetings
  • Attendance at the mandatory Foundation Teaching Programme

FY1 trainees will undertake duties as follows:

  • Will undertake no out-of-hours duties
  • Attendance at daily post take Consultant ward rounds
  • Assist in Theatre and Delivery Suite
  • Pre-operative clerking of Obstetric/Gynae patients
  • Venous cannulation of patients
  • Attendance at Directorate Teaching sessions
  • Attendance at Directorate Audit meetings
  • Attendance at the mandatory Foundation Teaching Programme
