FAQs

Joining the Foundation Programme as an FY1 means there’s a lot of information to take in.  We’ve laid it all out in the Foundation section of our website, but these are our handy FAQs:

We have a two week Foundation Induction, to enable your transition from University to working life at the Hospital to run smoothly.  Please make a note of the Induction Programme dates before making any post Final Exam holiday plans.

The required screening for your Foundation position is in two parts.

  • The paper based side is done by our Recruitment team and will begin in the weeks following the allocation of the new FY1s to our Trust.  A fair bit of these checks can be done over email, like the References, but you’ll also need to attend an ID check and Occupational Health check on site at some point PRIOR to starting the Induction period in July.  The Recruitment team will get in touch with everyone individually about this, with dates, asap.  Please keep a look out on your email and reply promptly!

  • The practical side is called Clinical Skills training and is incorporated into the two week Induction Programme designed to ease you into your first placement of the Foundation Programme.  The Clinical Skills training is scheduled for Thursday, July 20.

We have two branches to our team, to look after the educational and non-educational elements of the Foundation Programme.

As a team, our key responsibilities include delivering a quality and robust Foundation Programme to our Trainees.

Like an online, interactive diary, HORUS is used to document your learning during your two years on the Foundation Programme.  Your e-portfolio will help you to plan your learning, highlight areas needing extra attention and to demonstrate progression.

On-site accommodation is either 2 share or 3 share fully furnished flats.  Each resident has their own bedroom with bedding provided, but you can bring your own if you prefer!  There are shared kitchen facilities, including cooker, microwave, fridge freezer, crockery, pans, utensils, etc, plus a lounge, bathroom and toilet facilities.

Please see the Information sheet

Your Supervisors will be assigned prior to your first working day and the details will be emailed to you as part of your Welcome Pack.

The Foundation School have compiled a full section of information regarding Tier 4 sponsorship, including the Process, Key Dates and an extensive FAQ page.
