The ENT Department has 4 Consultant Surgeons who specialise in:
- Major ear surgery (including Mastoidectomy, Tympanoplasty, Myringoplasty)
- Hearing improvement surgery (Ossiculoplasty)
- BAHA (bone anchored hearing aids – abutment and magnetic)
- Nose operations (including Septoplasty, endoscopic sinus surgery)
- Facial Cosmetic Surgery (facial skin lesions, Rhinoplasty, Pinnaplasty)
- Endonasal Dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR’s) for blocked lacrimal duct
- Thyroid surgery
- Head & Neck surgery (including surgery for head & neck cancer, partoid and submandinular gland surgery)
- Paediatric ENT surgery
The ENT department is very active in research and audits, with all trainees encouraged to complete and present at least one QI project.
The ENT Consultants provide career guidance and support to build up your CV for CT and ST3 jobs.
The trainees will undertake duties as follows:
- Attend general out-patient clinics and also specialty clinics
- Training in simple operative procedures
- Exposure to more complex ENT surgeries
- Pre and post-operative care of ENT patients
- Attendance at Directorate Teaching
- Attendance at mandatory FY teaching
- Attendance at Directorate Audit
- Participation in on call shift system (ENT and Orthopaedic cross cover out of hours)
- Attendance at the mandatory Foundation Teaching Programme
