We hope you’re looking forward to your GP training programme as much as we are looking forward to helping you along the way. Remember: the scheme has a GP administrator and several Training Programme Directors that you can call upon.
Things to do when you join the scheme
In HEKSS there are a range of induction processes including corporate induction to your employing Trust, departmental induction for each placement and you will also receive an induction into the GP Specialty Training Programme by your local GP Programme Directors
Register with the RCGP

Visit your Educational Supervisor (GP Trainer)
We recommend that ST1 trainees visit their Educational Supervisor (GP Trainer) between 6 and 8 weeks into ST1 for one day so that you can begin to build your relationship with your Trainer and have a personal induction to the ePortfolio (14Fish) and a planning meeting regarding your overall learning needs for the programme.
Your rota
Contact your TPDs and get your rota so that you find out the details of your first post. Then contact that post and see exactly what is going to happen on your first and subsequent few days.
Rotas
You should receive your rotas 6 weeks before the post start date. Rota coordinator contacts are available for the Faculty Team. Please make early contact to book annual leave, study leave and advise of your working hours if not full time.
Additional cover than that provided by NHS Indemnity?
HEKSS provide indemnity cover for you when you join the scheme. They should contact you directly with details of how to opt in. The cover is with MPS and will cover your whole training. Please ensure that if, at any time, you change posts, you notify them as cover is speciality specific.

Trust Induction
If you are new to University Hospitals Sussex Trust or have not attended a Trust Induction for 2 years, you need to attend the Trust Induction on Wednesday 3rd August 2022. This is mandatory. You will then be advised by your first placement specialty of your departmental induction. In some cases that may be the same day and in others it might be the following day.
GP Training Induction
GP Training has it’s own induction too. This will take place on Thursday 11th August at The Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath from 09.00 – 1.30
This will be an opportunity to meet your fellow ST1s and learn about the scheme, the secondary care posts, study leave, exams, assessments and everything else that is unique to your GP training.
You need to attend both.
