SOMERSET STUDY LEAVE INFORMATION – 2021

There are two parts to study leave entitlement – study leave budget and study leave days. Both run in line with the academic year from August to July annually.

Days

The tables below break down how your entitlement is calculated:

Membership of Somerset GP Education Trust (SGPET) entitles you to attend any of their events at no extra cost whilst you are in your training period.  All ST1/2 Training HUB events now are booked via the SGPET website https://www.somersetgpeducationtrust.co.uk/events for further information please use the Website user guidance SGPET.

Events other than those noted on your timetable will need to be applied for out of your remaining days.

How to apply whilst in a hospital post

Your applications should form part of your PDP and be authorised by your Educational Supervisor (your ST3 practice trainer), and your rota coordinator etc. Normally you should be able to plan sufficiently to apply at least 6 weeks in advance of the course date.

How to apply whilst in a GP post

Your applications should form part of your PDP and be authorised by your Educational Supervisor (your ST3 practice trainer), and your Practice Manager. Normally you should be able to plan sufficiently to apply at least 6 weeks in advance of the course date.

Please then use the Intrepid online application system, ensuring that you apply for all required costs including travel, course fees etc.  You will receive an email confirming if your application has been approved within a few days of receipt of your application. Please do not book any courses until you have received approval otherwise you may be disappointed.

Following course attendance if you have had related expenses authorised, please submit your claim form (within 3 months of the course date), to Emma Stallard along with proof of attendance, copies of receipts etc – emma.stallard@ydh.nhs.uk

What to apply for

These are examples:

RCGP Exam preparation courses / Exam revision leave (maximum of 5 days for AKT/RCA/CSA private revision/ RCGP courses / SGPET (Somerset GP Education Trust) other than those included on timetable / Courses related to scholarship roles / Career fairs / Meetings related to GPST representative roles / Clinic attendance / Leadership courses / teaching courses / ILS (if qualification out of date) – note ALS & ATLS are not allowed / Adult & Child protection training / BLS/ GP update courses e.g. NB or Red Whale – one of each type in ST2/3.

Please ensure that you apply for your days in practice and patch tutorials too.
