University of Reading Medical Practice

University of Reading Medical Practice

We are a large practice with a list size of over 31,000 patients. We became a training practice in November 2017 and currently have one trainer, Dr Emma Cheetham. We have had F2 doctors in practice since 2015 and have also supported physician’s associate students, student nurses, paramedics and pharmacists during their placements in general practice.

We currently practice from two sites, having merged with a neighbouring practice, Whitley Villa, in 2016. The University practice is the larger of the two and is the main base for GP registrars. Both practices are within easy walking distance of The Royal Berkshire Hospital.

We have a staff of over 60 which currently includes 15 doctors plus locums, 8 nurses, 2 HCAs, 2 paramedics, 2 pharmacists and 1 physician’s associate. We have a large support team of admin staff as well as 11 receptionists. There is both a Business Manager and an Operations Manager.

Our patient list is about 30% students and 70% general population. We have strong links and work closely with Reading University.
We are very proud of the high quality patient care we offer and this was reflected in our CQC rating ‘Outstanding’ in 2015. We currently have a 4.5 star rating on NHS choices alongside some really positive comments.

We are a dynamic, proactive practice that strives to offer high quality patient care as well as good access. We value our staff and put great emphasis on their development and wellbeing by actively encouraging learning and improvement. We strongly promote a team approach to working in the demanding world of general practice.
