We work closely with Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth and local General Practitioners (GPs) to provide valuable rotations in GP during your Foundation Year 2 (F2) programme.
GP placements in the Foundation Programme provide F2 trainees with:
- an enhanced understanding and the ability to operate across the primary/secondary care boundary.
- a unique and broad perspective on the way in which the NHS can provide an integrated service to patients.
We currently have 11 GP rotations in Portsmouth; 8 posts are split posts – which afford experience in GP as well as one of the following specialties: public health, palliative care, contraception and sexual health, and substance misuse.
Trainees on the Isle of Wight can enjoy a split community rotation – spending their working week in both the GP setting as well as the Emergency Department.
During your GP rotation you will be well supported by both your GP clinical supervisor –and other colleagues in the surgery and clinical placement, as well as by the Portsmouth GP education team.
We hold regular GP F2 Trainee Small Group meetings, which we call ‘learning sets’ throughout your rotation. We are aware after working in the hospital environment, GP can feel quite isolating. The learning set offers peer support, an opportunity to discuss experiences and take part in both formal and learner led peer group teaching. Our learning set meets at St Mary’s Hospital, Block C, Portsmouth
