About our Training Practices

Training Practices

Our training practices

We are lucky to have a wide range of training GP practices. These vary widely in size, from 5,000 – 43,000 patients, and are located across inner-city Plymouth and out to market towns and villages across the South Hams and West Devon, and the coastal practices of East Cornwall.

You can see a list of our current training practices here

Placements in primary care are spread across a relatively large area, with some of our practices being in rural areas, which are not easily accessible by public transport. A valid driving license is therefore highly recommended in order to commute between placements and explore the local area.

All of our GP trainers and practices are expected to maintain the standards set out by the GMC, and are subject to a robust Quality Assurance process, which involves feedback from trainees, as well as regular reviews and visits carried out by the Educator Team.

One element of this is the Deanery’s annual trainee-driven Quality Panel process, which also quality assures all of our secondary care posts. You can find out more about the process here.

Individual GP Trainer approval is covered by the Deanery’s “Quality Assurance of GP Training Practices” framework, and you can find out more about this here.
