Community Placements

What are community placements?

  • They allow trainees to learn about the communities in which they are working and the third sector organisations supporting the community
  • Trainees in their first GP post (ST1 or ST2) should spend two half days observing, shadowing and working alongside a community or voluntary organisation of their choosing.
  • Trainees should organise the placement themselves.
  • The placements should be completed in 2 PLT sessions.

During COVID these have been suspended, but we still recommend that you spend time finding out about local projects and organisations that help improve health and wellbeing in your community.

These are some useful local links to help plan your placements and provide care in the community for patients
