Senior Partner (m)

MB BS MRCP DCH DRCOG DFFP St Bartholomew’s, London, 1987

I am a well-qualified general practitioner with a broad range of practical and clinical skills, experience of teaching, management, and research, and a strong commitment to high quality primary care. After completing my medical rotation and passing the MRCP, I considered a career in neuropsychiatry, but after starting psychiatry training, I missed practicing general medicine and realised that I could combine my interests in general medicine and psychosomatic overlap in general practice, so did placements in paediatrics and obstetrics and gynaecology, then took up a registrar post in general practice at a practice where I subsequently became a partner. I went on to gain accreditation in hypnotherapy with the British Society of Clinical and Academic Hypnosis and published two case reports in Contemporary Hypnosis. I have been a GP trainer since 2001 and whilst preparing for my PGCertEd in 2012, I developed the concept of ‘therapeutic examination’ which I had published in a shortened form in Education for Primary Care, with the full article available on the Bradford VTS website in the ‘Tutorial Suggestions’section, and also in www.essentialgptrainingbook.com in Chapter 26. Outside work, I enjoy playing jazz piano, cooking and eating good food, running and mountain biking.

Sam qualified in London in 1993, and became a GP after a 15 year career as a hospital consultant.

He has several areas of interest in general practice including women’s health, trans affirming care, food as medicine, neurodivergence and trauma informed practice.

Sam’s passion is training a multi-professional primary care workforce suited to meeting the needs of those facing healthcare inequalities.

It is a basic human right to have our healthcare needs met, and enabling this requires a different way of learning. Changing the health of the nation necessitates making healthcare accessible to all.

He lives in Brighton with his family, has given up his car, tries to cycle instead and sings in an LGBT choir for kicks.

I have been a trainer now for 6 years or so and love it. We are really fortunate at Trinity to have a fantastic new building: a converted church in central Hove a few roads away from the sea! We have grown with the merging of 3 local practices into one supporting a patient population of nearly 27,000 patients. We have a brilliant team of GPs, ANPs, paramedics, physio, pharmacists, practice nurses, health care assistants, physician associate and a brilliant management and senior management team. We are a large practice with 16 doctors (9 partners). We all love supporting our trainees and have grown significantly in our training capacity. We now have 4 GP Clinical Supervisors supporting FY2 and ST doctors. We also support students from BSMS and often have practice nurse trainees.

My clinical areas of more specialist interest include Palliative care, Care of the Elderly and Women’s health. I also work as a GP appraiser outside the practice.

I have worked as a salaried GP and locum, but I love being a partner and think that Stanford is a fantastic place to work. I still do a bit of ENT, some family planning and more recently have trained in vasectomy.

I live in Hassocks with my husband and two young children, and I spend my spare time running, singing and looking after my chickens.

Trainer GP Practice: Havenshealth Medical Practice, Peacehaven: Rowe Ave Surgery

Trainer Telephone: 01273 579502

Primary qualifications: MRCGP, DFSRH, DCH, MBChB, BMEDSci, Birmingham 2000

I qualified as a GP in 2007. I started work in Scotland where I worked until 2011 when my family relocated to the south coast. My first job in the area was in East Brighton before I moved to join the team at Rowe Avenue.

Being a GP is a great (although busy) job. I really enjoy the variety and am happy to see any kind of heath complaint however trivial it might seem. I have a diploma in child health and another in sexual health. Skin conditions are something of an interest.

I’m very happy to be working at Rowe Avenue. I think we have a great team.

Recently we’ve been asked to apply the ‘Friends and Family’ test in health care. The test involves asking yourself if you would recommend your place of work to your own friends or family. I know I am biased but, I have the pleasure of being able to say honestly that I would recommend Rowe Avenue to anyone and that’s not just because I work here.

Dr Myers has recently been appointed on the Board of the CCG and is the Lead for Planned care for the Lewes Havens CCG, helping to improve health care services in this area. He will be staying at Rowe Avenue Surgery as a GP Partner and will continue to have clinics on Monday, Tuesday and Friday.

Quayside is a really friendly and supportive place to work. GPs meet every lunchtime to chat and also to discuss any challenging cases. The whole team is very enthusiastic about training and supportive of trainees.

I am a strong believer in the importance of maintaining a good work life balance. Outside of work I love sea swimming and stand up paddle boarding. I am otherwise kept busy and entertained by my two young boys.

About Eleonora:

I qualified in Italy and moved to the UK in 1998 to pursue a carrier in Paediatrics. However, the variety of clinical presentations, the potential for change and the opportunity to get involved with training that General Practice offers eventually won me over and I became a GP in 2007. I have been a GP partner since 2013 and re-established training at Ardingly Court Surgery in 2017.

Outside work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and I love listening to Opera and classical music (and have a go at playing it too on the piano).
