New Educational Supervisors

Becoming a new trainer can be daunting. It is important you feel supported through your journey as a trainer and here is a suggestion of what you might want to do once you are approved as a new ES:

Make contact with a local trainer’s workshop – Gloucester & West Gloucestershire / Cheltenham & North Cotswolds / Stroud & South Cotswolds – More information on the Workshop Page

Within that workshop arrange to have a mentor to have someone to run queries past and to help support you.

You will have a joint peer visit after 3 years with another local ES where you will review each other

Your local TPD team are always available to help answer any queries

The workshops work quite differently and it is worthwhile looking at each workshop to see which one is most suitable for you and which one you might want to join.

More information on being an Educational Supervisor can be found on the HEE website

ARCP
The local GP Education Team go through each trainee’s eportfolio at the end of the year in May/June/July. We invite local trainers to come along to help us and the feedback from trainers has been that this has been a very useful experience. It is particularly useful for new trainers to become familiar with the eportfolio and for all trainers to have see how other ESs use the eportfolio and complete the ESR. If you are interested then please contact GP Training

ES/CS Conference
Educational Supervisors’ Conferences
These are large one day events for about eighty educational supervisors (trainers). They are an opportunity to network widely across the Severn Primary Care School footprint and tend to be a mixture of interactive presentations and group work. Time is built in to enable lots of informal information and experience sharing. We hope that most training practices can send a trainer to attend. As the conferences are extremely popular, individual trainers should only attend one per year.

Local Trainer/Trainee Workshop
We also run a local afternoon conference for Gloucestershire ESs and CSs. Some years the Trainees in General Practice posts are also invited to attend this. You will be sent details of the next workshop in 2023.
