The Severn Postgraduate Medical Education Trainee Support team aims to help promote trainee well-being and personal development by providing support and assistance in tackling obstacles or key transitions – professional or personal.
We understand how stressful and demanding working as a trainee doctor can be, as well as the effect events in our personal lives can have on us, which is why we feel offering a support service to Severn Postgraduate Medical Education trainees is crucial.

Trainee Support is run by a team based at Severn Postgraduate Medical Education and includes:

What we do
Trainee Support offers trainees the opportunity to sit down with a member of the Trainee Support team in a confidential and supportive setting to discuss any challenges or concerns. From this, a plan of action is developed jointly and support resources agreed.
Trainee Support can provide access to a range of support and development resources which can help to improve trainee well-being which can ultimately impact on the quality of patient care. We will ensure objectivity and confidentiality for trainees by providing an open and supportive service which is outside employing organisations.

Within the Gloucestershire Postgraduate Department, Susannah Jenkin (Susannah.firstname.lastname@example.org) is the Career Tutor.
The requirement of this role is to talk through any aspects of a trainees career by one-to-one sessions to discuss topics like specialty choice, career change, or how to achieve better work/life balance as well as running mock interview scenarios and delivery of career sessions to the Foundation Doctors and Core Trainees.
