About Macclesfield

The Area

Close to Manchester, the Peak District, Crewe and Liverpool, we are attractive to trainees from across Cheshire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire, South Manchester and Merseyside. The bright lights and entertainment of Manchester, eateries and residencies of South Manchester or the beauty of the Peak District are reasons enough to come to Macclesfield. The friendliness of the hospital and town, quality of local schools and availability of affordable housing, also adds to its appeal for all.

East Cheshire NHS Trust is based in Macclesfield on the edge of the stunning Peak District National Park. Surrounded by outstanding countryside and beautiful towns and villages, Macclesfield is a superb place to live and work.

Macclesfield grew as one of the main silk centres of the country, renowned for the skill of its designers and for its richly patterned woven fabrics. Macclesfield hosts a variety of cafe’s and restaurants including the Picturedrome. The Picturedrome is pop up food hall in a renovated cinema, which has a great variety of street food. The perennially popular Treacle Market takes place on the last Sunday of every month.

The Heritage Centre based in Macclesfield is an old Sunday school, built in 1814 and now is a multi-use venue which is home to an independent cinema and hosts concerts.

Macclesfield has a football, rugby and cricket club, as well as a leisure centre and has numerous golf courses in the locality.

Alongside the town centre the location of the town lends itself to outdoor activities such as hiking and cycling. There is a famous award winning Canal running between Marple and Hall Green, passing through Bollington, Macclesfield and Congleton. The Canal passes through mostly green and rural surroundings, with Victorian mills and warehouses along the way adding a distinctive character.
