ITP Teaching 2026/27
Dear ITPers (Class of 2026-2027)
On Thursday (August 2026-January 2027)/Wednesday (February-August 2027) mornings during your upcoming ITP/GP placement/s you will be part of a peer learning group which comprises teaching led by each of you in turn.
Induction
With the challenges ST1 and ST2s rotating at different times next academic year pose, we have taken the decision to deliver a single Induction for everyone allocated GP/ITP placement/s across 2026-2027 instead of one at each rotation point. This session has been scheduled for 12:30pm, Thursday 3 September 2026 (Room A4, Education Centre) and you are asked to make every effort to attend. The relevant departmental leads for anyone in hospital placements on this date have already been approached and asked to release you. Those in Psychiatry or Palliative Care will shortly be sent a Teams link to join remotely.
Programme
A preliminary timetable covering the full year is attached. Depending on whether you are in ITP/GP for 4, 6, 8 or 12 months, you have all been allocated as lead for either one or two sessions. You can swap dates, however you must please let us know via the link below so we can keep track of who is running each week and also ensure you present on the specified number of occasions.

Housekeeping
Allteaching will continue to be exclusively face-2-face and take place in either Room A4 or the Lecture Theatre unless otherwise stated – please check the display in the Education Centre Reception on arrival. In the past we have included a Trainer or TPD to help facilitate but Deanery instruction is that peer groups should be exclusively trainee led which we find works very well so we plan to continue with this model. We may however occasionally pop in and you can of course invite your ES along to contribute or support you.
NB:
If you have individual circumstances which preclude you from attending in person or that require you to participate virtually, please seek permission from your named Training Programme Director as soon as possible. Attendance will be monitored and study leave applications may be declined if inadequate. In essence, ITP teaching is treated like any team-based job on a hospital ward and therefore, if you are unable to attend for a valid reason, the Trust’s usual absence from work policies apply*.You should record all periods of absence, i.e. annual leave, illness (which counts as sick leave and a self-certificate/Med3 must be provided) or special leave (which counts as time out of training for which a completed form must again be provided) via the Microsoft Form found at the link below:
Weekly Teaching Absence/Alternative Activity Declaration
* HR guidance dictates that ‘anyone reporting to be absent from work due to sickness (and are therefore too unwell to come into work) should be reported as absent and should not be working from home. The only exception to this is in the event of a member of staff testing positive for COVID but is asymptomatic and well enough to work from home’.
The sessions will run weekly from 10:00am-12:00noon and as paid work time, you are expected to fill the full two hours but we suggest a 10-15 minute comfort break midway. Ideally the teaching should use an interesting case (for which you have written a learning log) to springboard the discussion. We have found that interactive sessions work best but understand that this may not always be possible so PowerPoints are not banned!
We understand from previous groups that parking is a challenge when arriving for 10:00am. Our suggested solution is to arrive before 9:00am when the MedEd team tell us there are spaces available more reliably. Timetables for the vast majority of our trainees contain 8 hours paid/employed educational time that includes private study which can be undertaken in the Library before the official ITP teaching start time of 10:00am if that makes things less stressful for you.
