Practice Information

The Priory Surgery is the longest established practice in High Wycombe, a town with a population of 118,000. We have a stable practice team with a mix of GPs, Practice Nurses a Minor Illnesses nurse, a Health Care Assistant, 16 Receptionists, 2 Secretaries and a Computer Data Clerk. There is an in-house Phlebotomist and Asian Link worker. Health Visitors, Midwives and Diabetes Community Nurses also operate from the building. The surgery is a 3 storey converted Victorian building in the heart of the town. It serves a practice population of 12,500 (approx. 20% ethnic minorities mainly Asian/West Indian) in a suburban setting with a few outlying villages..

Special Clinics comprise Diabetes, Child Health Surveillance, Cryotherapy, Health Promotion, CHD/smoking, Travel, Minor Illnesses, Hypertension monitoring, COPD/Asthma, Family Planning and Maternity. We offer Minor Surgery and a comprehensive Joint Injection service. Outside commitments include medical officers to local Care and Nursing Homes and medical officer to a local Preparatory School. We do not maintain individual lists, but patients are encouraged to seek continuity of care with one doctor. Each doctor is encouraged to further their specialist medical interests for the benefit of the practice.

We use the Emis Web computer system for patient records and all patient correspondence is scanned onto the computer. Our practice website (www.thepriorysurgery.co.uk) is used to communicate with our patients and so has been useful in health promotion and education.
We are a friendly hard-working practice providing traditional family medicine in an environment geared toward learning and the development of everyone working here.

All members of the practice are supportive of GP training. Registrars have study leave weekly to attend the local VTS group as well as protected learning time during the week at the practice. New Registrars have a defined induction period at the start of their time with us during which their learning style and needs are assessed whilst they familiarise themselves with the practice. Initial consultation length will be 30 minutes per appointment moving down to 10 minutes as the Registrar progresses. Assessment is carried out throughout the year using work place based tools and feedback from all staff members. In this way it is hoped that the Registrar feels supported during their time with us and ultimately benefits from being here.
