Welcome to the Macclesfield GP training Programme!

We are delighted to welcome you to the Macclesfield GP Training Programme and look forward to meeting you at the start of your first rotation. You may find the information below helpful to support you before you start. If you have any queries along the way, you can always contact the GP Training Administrator and your Training Programme Director (TPD).

First things first…

Once we have confirmation that you will be joining the Macclesfield Programme, we will send you an email with a questionnaire to be completed. We kindly ask that you complete this with as much information as possible, as it helps us during your track allocation.

Once your track allocation is completed, we will send you an email to confirm, along with the details of your Educational Supervisors and Clinical Supervisors. Further information on track allocation can be found on our Your Training page.

Important Communications

After accepting your training offer, you will receive emails from multiple stakeholders, including (but not limited to):

  • The Lead Employer
  • The GP School
  • The Macclesfield GP Training Programme

It is important to check your emails regularly to ensure you do not miss any important communications.

Less Than Full Time (LTFT) Training

If you have indicated that you plan to apply for Less Than Full Time (LTFT) training, you will need to complete the relevant application form and submit this to your GP Training Administrator and TPD for approval and processing.

Rota

You should receive your rota for your first post approximately six weeks before your start date.

If your first post is in a GP practice, please contact your Clinical Supervisor in advance of your start date for your work schedule.

If your first post is hospital-based, the Medical Staffing Team will contact you with your rota.

If you have applied to work LTFT, please contact Medical Staffing or your GP Practice to agree your working days prior to rota release.

Induction, RCGP Membership & ePortfolio

You will be required to attend a number of induction sessions and will need to become a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP). This will give you access to the portfolio system, FourteenFish, which you will use to log your training over the next three years.

Once you know have access to FourteenFish and know who your supervisors are, you can add them to your Fourteen Fish portfolio

Once you receive your track from the GP Training Administrator and TPD, please review the details of your first placement.


If your first placement is at Macclesfield Hospital, please contact the rota team at ecn-tr.medicalstaffing@nhs.net.


If your first placement is in General Practice or Psychiatry, please contact your supervisor to confirm arrangements for your first few days and the initial period of your placement.

If you are unsure of their contact details, please contact your GP Training Administrator to obtain the relevant information.

Resident Doctors are covered under the NHS Resolution Clinical Negligence Scheme for GPs, however the top-up cover is for issues such as complaints, coroners and GMC referrals. It is arranged through the Deanery so would not be routinely checked at onboarding by the Lead Employer. 

Resident Doctors are contacted regarding indemnity prior to commencing in placement and receive a reminder email a few weeks later to join.

General Practice Indemnity

Inductions You Will Receive

You will be required to attend several induction sessions at the start of your training.

You will attend an induction specific to your placement, either within General Practice or a hospital specialty. This will help you settle into your ST1 post and understand your day-to-day responsibilities.

If your first placement is at Macclesfield Hospital, you will also need to attend a Corporate Induction at the hospital.

You will attend an induction organised by the GP School. This session provides an overview of your full GP training pathway, including key requirements, assessments, and exams.

The GP School organise an induction for doctors who are new to the NHS.

This induction will introduce you to the Training Programme Director (TPD) and the Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) team. It will also outline the support available to you throughout your training.

You are required to attend all of these induction sessions.
