Thinking about applying for LTFT training?
Less than full time training (LTFT) is when a GP Registrar (GPR) reduces their working hours below the standard 100% full time (40 hours per week) to a different percentage such as 60% or 80%.
Applications can be made whether you are in training, not yet commenced training, or on a period of extended leave.
Trainees are advised to make contact with their GP Training Programme Director if they are considering LTFT training and should do so before completing a LTFT Training Application Form (alternatively, please indicate your LTFT preference on your Oriel application).
Applications may be considered for a variety of reasons:
- Parental care
- Trainees with a disability or ill health
- Trainees with caring responsibilities
- Welfare and wellbeing
- Unique opportunities
- Religious commitment
- Non-medical development
- Flexibility for training and career development
Please note
– LTFT should be considered a permanent change to training as we are unable to accommodate LTFT for individual placements.
– Trainees are required to complete a minimum number of days in hospital placements (which do not include ITP posts). By going LTFT you may need to extend your hospital post or complete an additional hospital placement. Your individual circumstance will be determined by post availability and we cannot guarantee that your existing placements will be unaffected. This is why it is important to discuss this with the training programme director before your application.
– Not all specialties can accommodate LTFT trainees. In this circumstance your ITP post may be changed to a GP only post or another specialty subject to availability.
– Speak with your Educational Supervisor and Training Programme Director early. We have both a Trainee Representative in the scheme and a Hospital Champion in the Trust for LTFT training, both of whom are happy to be contacted with any questions or problems you may be have regarding LTFT training.
