Below is a trainee-generated summary of our current posts. All trainees will be offered an opportunity to declare their preferences on individual posts, but as some posts are more suitable for trainees with occupational health issues or caring responsibilities, we cannot unfortunately guarantee that all trainees will get their higher preferences. All posts are GMC approved as being suitable for GP training.

– Good insight into another healthcare sector
– Great CBT opportunities including Live Well, long term conditions, group sessions
– Can learn to help deliver computerised, telephone and face to face guided self help
– Community OPA 1-5 days per week

– Based at Amersham
– Inpatient neuro rehab unit
– Involves looking after in patients with 2 consultants
– Good MDT working
– Cardiology, rheumatology and neuro clinics are held weekly and are a good source of GP focussed learning
– General and rheumatology teaching is very good
– A well supported job. Useful for GP in a friendly environment

– Based at Whiteleaf centre, Aylesbury or Valley Centre, Wycombe
– On calls are at Whiteleaf
– Placements include old age, community, acute and general adult psychiatry
– Good exposure to drugs including side effects and monitoring, drug and alcohol services, assessment and management of acute presentations
– Useful exposure to OOH problems

– Dermatology will be based at Amersham Hospital only
– Unbanded
– Derm: time in clinics and minor ops, lots of practical support. Exposure to acute dermatological conditions on Day Unit. Responsible for helping junior colleagues
– Rheum: mostly clinic based, good learning opportunities, includes xray meetings and rheumatology meetings. Good practical skills teaching including joint injections
– An audit is expected and presented
– Well supportive team.​

– Hospice based on Stoke Mandeville site
– Integrated with ½ day per week in GP and in ENT clinic
– On call from home 1 per week and 1:5 weekends
– Very well supported and organised
– Journal club and teaching
– Experience in lymphoedema clinic and day hospice
– Fully banded but flexible
– Highly recommended

– Stoke Mandeville for clinics, day surgery at Wycombe general
– Obs: labour ward, antenatal admissions, obstetric emergencies. Antenatal clinics, post natal ward cover. Am and pm shifts.
– Gynae: ward cover, clinics and theatre
– On calls: 1 : 4 weekends
– Twilight shifts Monday- Thursday 1-8 once a month + nights
– Teaching: weekly SpR. Monthly educational half day. Perinatal mortality meetings, audit is required

– Based at SMH
– Resus, minors, majors and paediatric assessment. You will work across all areas. Minors is usually covered by ENPs
– Variety of shifts
– 2-3 weekends per month
– Protected teaching time weekly

– Divided between neonates and general paeds
– Neonates: attend NICU, high risk deliveries. Useful for learning about baby checks and identifying the sick neonate

– During community paeds 1 week is spent on ward 7 WGH paediatric day unit
– Shift based jobs
– Journal club and weekly teaching

– CSRU – acute day cases only. Very good job – acute cardiac cases and stroke (regional stroke centre).
– Two stroke wards – rehab and acute ward.
– Lots of experience managing stroke and its complications.
– Also work along with stroke rehab.
– On-calls – one in four, well supported by reg/consultant. Cover cardiology as well as stroke (no F1 over night)

– 3 months banded – oncalls (ward cover and medical take clerking in A&E)
– 1 week of nights in 6 months
– 3 weekends in 6 months (2 days 1 nights)
– Red team – consultant ward rounds 2-3 times per week
– Blue team – 1-2 consultant ward rounds per week
– Friday lunchtime teaching MFoP
– Wednesday morning general medicine teaching 8.30 start in postgrad centre
– Approachable for workplace based assessments
