About Our Training Programme
The Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells GP Training Scheme provides a wide range of educational opportunities and personalised support, giving GP trainees a varied, holistic and memorable training experience. We have an approachable and friendly training training programme team who are focussed on supporting you through your learning journey.
Originally two separate schemes, we merged to mirror the merging of the hospitals into one trust. During the course of your training with us, you will spend time at both hospital sites depending on the specialty you are working in.
GP training schemes are 3 years in length (whole time equivalent), and ours includes a total of 16 to 20 months in general practice, with either 4 or 8 months in general practice during your ST1 and ST2 years in addition to the whole of ST3. The remainder of the 3 years is spent in hospital posts. Time in general practice is going to be gradually expanded, with the aim that everyone who starts in August 2022 has 24 months.
Specialties we cover
- Obstetrics & Gynaecology
- Paediatrics

Learning Opportunities on our Programme
We provide learning opportunities throughout the training programme, with monthly half day teaching sessions during your hospital posts, then our varied and interactive weekly Half Day Release (HDR) programme during GP posts. Additionally, once a year we have “Knowledge day”, an all day event, and an away day where we spend some time together in another setting.
The integrated post in Clinical Leadership in Commissioning (CLIC) is available during your ST2 year and enables you experience the wider role a GP can play in influencing local healthcare.
