About Our Training Programme<\/h3>

Welcome to Wirral \u2013 a great place to train as a GP!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wirral is a peninsula shaped by Ice Age glaciers and home to an economically diverse population of around 321,000 people. During your 18 months in primary care, you will have access to 27 GP training practices and more than 50 enthusiastic GP trainers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most hospital posts are based at Wirral University Teaching Hospital, including paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, general medicine, medicine for the elderly, emergency medicine, and general surgery. We also offer psychiatry posts within Wirral, as well as oncology placements at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, now located in Liverpool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of your first year in General Practice, you may have the opportunity to undertake an integrated training post in areas such as research, public health, university education, the drugs and alcohol service, the frailty team, the hospice, or psychiatry. These posts typically make up 40% of your week, with the remaining 60% spent in your GP practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We hold Half-Day Release (HDR)<\/strong> sessions on Thursday afternoons, usually on the first three Thursdays of each month.
These sessions offer a valuable opportunity to spend time with other doctors in training\u2014sharing ideas, discussing challenging cases and current topics, and practising consultation skills. We also run an annual conference<\/strong> for trainees and regularly invite external speakers to contribute to our sessions<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We can share our learning, our clinical confusions, and our personal experiences in different jobs with our colleagues there.
