Workplace based assessment (WPBA) is defined as the evaluation of a doctor’s progress over time in their performance in those areas of professional practice best tested in the workplace. It is a process through which evidence of competence in independent practice is gathered in a structured and systematic framework. Evidence is collected over all three years of training. The evidence is recorded in a web-based portfolio (the ePortfolio) and used to inform six monthly reviews and, at the end of training, to make a holistic, qualitative judgement about the readiness of the GPStR for independent practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The eportfolio is designed to be a developmental as well as an assesment tool- the process of submitting entries and reading your trainer’s comments on them will encourage you to reflect on your practice and your future learning needs and help you to develop as a GP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Timely completion of log entries and regular updating of the ePortfolio is YOUR responsibility. This is the only proof you have to show that you are gaining and developing further the skills you will need as a qualified GP. Failure to do this may result in unsatisfactory progress and referral to the Deanery, extension of your training, or in serious cases, termination of your training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To access your ePortfolio you are required to register with the RCGP<\/a>. Most trainees select the AiT Package 1 for ST1 (CCT) to gain the benefits of being an Associate in Training (eg. AiT journal). You should do this within the first 2 weeks of your training programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
