{"id":353,"date":"2013-11-30T15:16:44","date_gmt":"2013-11-30T15:16:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.readingvts.org\/?page_id=353"},"modified":"2021-01-20T10:42:30","modified_gmt":"2021-01-20T10:42:30","slug":"consultations-and-debriefing","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/gp-training.hee.nhs.uk\/reading\/trainers\/the-trainee-in-gp\/consultations-and-debriefing\/","title":{"rendered":"Consultations and Debriefing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>ST1 and ST2<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is often the first exposure to general practice and trainees will have to learn how to use IT and administrative systems.&nbsp; Trainees will have very different levels of experience and confidence, the timings below are just a suggestion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>First 4 weeks 30 minute appointments<\/li><li>Then 20 minute appointments for months 2 to 4<\/li><li>Then 15 minutes for the remainder of their placement<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Debriefs should occur after every patient initially, then slots held for supervising doctors at reguar intervals through out each session to enable trainees to ask &#8216;on the spot&#8217; advice, every session should be followed by a 30 min debrief to work through all of the patients seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>ST3s<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Experience has shown that the following schedule of appointment times suits most ST3s- however it will need to be tailored to each individual and in particular those who have done a recent GP placement in ST2 or who are planning an early CSA may need to move to shorter appointements faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Start\u00a04 weeks 20 minute appointments<\/li><li>Then 15 minutes for a further 4 weeks<\/li><li>Then 10 minutes for 10 weeks before CSA ideally<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>There should also be plans in place for debriefing.&nbsp; Initially this should be 10 minutes of trainer time for each registrar patient.&nbsp; This can quickly be reduced to every 2 or 3 patients and finally half an hour at the end of surgery.&nbsp; After a couple of months you may no longer plan a specific debrief time for each surgery but there should still be a nominated GP supervising the registrar for each surgery who they can go to for help and advice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p class=\"nhsuk-card__description\">ST1 and ST2 This is often the first exposure to general practice and trainees will have to learn how to [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"parent":348,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"rating_form_position":"","rating_results_position":"","mr_structured_data_type":"","footnotes":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"class_list":["post-353","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
