We can be contacted on\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:bobicb-bw.vts.reading@nhs.net\">bobicb-bw.vts.reading@nhs.net<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-nhsblocks-panel1 nhsuk-panel is-style-panel-with-label\"><h3><strong>&nbsp;Benefits of training<\/strong><\/h3><div class=\"paneltext\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Practices benefit from\u00a0the knowlege base of trainee\u00a0doctors who have up-to-date experience of secondary care and the GP curriculum.  Trainees also act as a &#8216;fresh pair of eyes&#8217; able to bring new perspectives using experience of other practices they have worked in.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Training offers the opportunity to work more closely with other local practices, sharing ideas and expertise across the locality and between different health care professionals in <a href=\"https:\/\/wessex.hee.nhs.uk\/wider-workforce\/tvw-primary-care-school\/tvw-pcs-training-hubs\/\">training hubs<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Becoming a training practice encourages learning within your practice team as everyone can get involved in training<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As a trainer you will have the opportunity to attend regular updates and away days to enhance your skills as an educator<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We currently have training practices of a variety of sizes in a variety of <a href=\"https:\/\/gp-training.hee.nhs.uk\/reading\/trainees\/gp-placements\/\">locations<\/a>. We are keen to showcase as much as possible of the diversity of general practice to our trainees and would be interested in approches from any type of practice interested in training.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-nhsblocks-panel1 nhsuk-panel is-style-panel-with-label\"><h3><strong>What are the requirements for me to become a trainer?<\/strong><\/h3><div class=\"paneltext\">\n<p>Under normal circumstances, the following are required in order to become a trainer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&#8211; A minimum of 2 years post CCT experience working as a GP in a training practice, or 3 years in a non-training practice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8211; Been working in your current practice for at least 6 months<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8211; You work a minimum of 3 clinical sessions a week in your practice (either partner or salaried)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8211; Be working as a GP in good standing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8211; The practice you work in needs to be CQC approved (this may or may not be an existing training practice)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-nhsblocks-panel1 nhsuk-panel is-style-panel-with-label\"><h3><strong>How do I become a trainer?<\/strong><\/h3><div class=\"paneltext\">\n<p>The full details of how to become a trainer can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/thamesvalley.hee.nhs.uk\/gp-training\/educators\/\">Thames Valley Website<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To become a trainer, you need to seek support from your practice team, speak to the local TPDs (<a href=\"mailto:bobicb-bw.vts.reading@nhs.net\">bobicb-bw.vts.reading@nhs.net<\/a>) about your intentions and then apply to complete an Educational Supervisor Course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your practice will also need to meet certain criteria- details of which can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/thamesvalley.hee.nhs.uk\/gp-training\/educators\/\">Thames Valley Website<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before you can take your first trainee you will have a practice visit to assess both youself and the practice against these criteria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-nhsblocks-panel1 nhsuk-panel is-style-panel-with-label\"><h3><strong>What are the commitments of becoming a trainer?<\/strong><\/h3><div class=\"paneltext\">\n<p>Before deciding to become a trainer you are advised to consult the <a href=\"https:\/\/gp-training.hee.nhs.uk\/reading\/trainers\/practicalities-and-admin\/trainers-commitments\/\">Trainer&#8217;s Commitments<\/a> section of this website and discuss these with your practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Typically once you are appointed as a trainer you will be allocated an ST1 trainee. You will support them through their hospital jobs and and then host them in your practice in their final ST3 year of training. You will be supported by the programme directors and local associate dean.
