{"id":33,"date":"2013-11-22T01:53:26","date_gmt":"2013-11-22T01:53:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.readingvts.org\/?page_id=33"},"modified":"2025-11-24T14:04:42","modified_gmt":"2025-11-24T14:04:42","slug":"clinical-supervision","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/gp-training.hee.nhs.uk\/reading\/the-scheme\/clinical-supervision\/","title":{"rendered":"Supervision &#8211; Your Clinical and Educational Supervisors"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-nhsblocks-panel1 nhsuk-panel is-style-panel-with-label\"><h3>Your Clinical Supervisor<\/h3><div class=\"paneltext\">\n<p>The clinical part of your training during the various stages is coordinated by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcgp.org.uk\/mrcgp-exams\/gp-curriculum\/how-gp-training-is-delivered\">Clinical Supervisor<\/a>. This is usually the Consultant you are working with in hospital, or GP trainer\u00a0if you are in a primary care post. During your last year as an ST3, your Educational Supervisor will take over as you will usually be working in their practice.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-nhsblocks-panel1 nhsuk-panel is-style-panel-with-label\"><h3>Your Educational Supervisor<\/h3><div class=\"paneltext\">\n<p>All doctors enrolled in the specialty training program will be allocated an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcgp.org.uk\/mrcgp-exams\/gp-curriculum\/how-gp-training-is-delivered\">Educational Supervisor<\/a>. Educational Supervisors are all experienced GPs and trained GP educators.\u00a0 During ST1 and ST2 your Educational Supervisor will ensure that you make good progress with your training by monitoring your e-portfolio and meeting with you at least every six months for reviews, which are a necessary part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcgp.org.uk\/mrcgp-exams\/wpba\">Workplace Based Assessment.<\/a> The Educational Supervisor will go through your e-Portfolio with you and help you define which areas of the curriculum you need to focus on. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will be allocated an educational supervisor just before you start on scheme and we would recommend that you contact them at the beginning of your first placement in order to plan your first meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Occasionally learners might find themselves in difficulty, due to ill health or other reasons. Your ES is the first person whom you should discuss any difficulties with.
