In Educational Supervision, your supervisor is looking to see how you are doing by making sure you are making good progress in various areas specified by the RCGP.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is also a forward-looking process \u2013 where the ES will help you discover further educational needs and develop a plan for the next training period, essentially resulting in a Personal Development Plan.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-nhsblocks-panel1 nhsuk-panel is-style-panel-with-label\"><h3> What types of things will be reviewed in ES? <\/h3><div class=\"paneltext\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Your learning log entries (checking for a meaningful level of reflection)<br><\/li><li>Workplace Based Assessments \u2013 like COTs, CBDs, Mini-CEXs, MSFs, PSQs and CEPS<br><\/li><li>The 13 Professional Competencies \u2013 making sure you are gradually gathering more evidence for each of them.<br><\/li><li>Checking your engagement in Out of Hours to achieve the 6 OOH capabilities.<br><\/li><li>Checking what your Clinical Supervisor has to say in their report (the CSR).<br><\/li><li>Making sure you\u2019ve engaged in a Quality Improvement Programme.<br><\/li><li>Checking your previous year\u2019s PDP and whether you have achieved them.<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-nhsblocks-panel1 nhsuk-panel is-style-panel-with-label\"><h3> How is this different to Clinical Supervision?<\/h3><div class=\"paneltext\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Try not to confuse your Clinical Supervisor with your Educational Supervisor. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Clinical Supervisor oversees your day to day work and will change with each change of post. &nbsp;<\/li><li>Your Educational Supervisor oversees your progress throughout training and will usually remain the same person throughout your 3 year training period. &nbsp;Their aim is to keep you on track for training (primarily) and help you identify and meet your learning needs<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-nhsblocks-panel1 nhsuk-panel is-style-panel-with-label\"><h3> How many meetings and are these important?<\/h3><div class=\"paneltext\">\n<p>There will be one ES meeting every 6 months. If you\u2019re an ST1 in your very first post, we expect you to have TWO ES meetings during that post \u2013 an initial handshake one at the beginning and a more formal one at the end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And ES is a mandatory. Your ARCP can\u2019t happen without it. Please note: it is the trainee\u2019s responsibility to get in touch with their Educational Supervisor and arrange a meeting (not the other way around).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-nhsblocks-panel1 nhsuk-panel is-style-panel-with-label\"><h3> Who is my Educational Supervisor?<\/h3><div class=\"paneltext\">\n<p>Contact your GP Training Scheme Administrator \u2013 they will be able to tell you. If you are new \u2013 you\u2019ll probably find out at your training scheme\u2019s induction programme.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-nhsblocks-panel1 nhsuk-panel is-style-panel-with-label\"><h3> Which Assessment at Which Stage?<\/h3><div class=\"paneltext\">\n<p>Do you get confused which WPBA assessments need to be done at which ST stage and how many? This graphical representation should help:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcgp.org.uk\/training-exams\/training\/mrcgp-workplace-based-assessment-wpba.aspx\" class=\"wp-block-nhsblocks-nhsbutton alignright nhsuk-button\">Which WPBA at which stage?<\/a>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-nhsblocks-panel1 nhsuk-panel is-style-panel-with-label\"><h3> The ES Workbook<\/h3><div class=\"paneltext\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The ES Workbook is basically a very simple mapping tool that has been developed by some GP Trainers to HELP you. We strongly advise you to use it and upload it to your ePortfolio. It will make your life and the Educational Supervisor\u2019s life easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The ES Workbook can be downloaded from the Bradford VTS link below (see the DOWNLOADS section).<\/li><li>Remember to start a new ES workbook for each ST year.<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-nhsblocks-panel1 nhsuk-panel is-style-panel-with-label\"><h3> The ES checklist<\/h3><div class=\"paneltext\">\n<p>We also strong recommend trainees use something called \u201cThe ES Checklist\u201d to ensure they have got everything in order prior their ES meeting. The ES meeting will take about 2-3 hours.
