There is now also a multi-professional option to becoming a clinical supervisor as well as the route for GPs to become educational supervisors (GP trainers\/ Primary care educators)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Eligibility<\/strong> If you are interested in becoming a Clinical Supervisor or GP educator (Educational Supervisor role). There are different routes you can take depending on the level of supervision you are taking on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The two downloadable documents below provide full details of the process and requirements for becoming a GP Educator in London. All information is also available here<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n To become a GP clinical supervisor, FY2 or OOH supervisor<\/strong> you need to attend \u2018an introduction to supervision and assessment course\u2019\u2019. There are a number of options to complete such a course:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Option 1:<\/strong> Complete the ISLA, UCL \u201cIntroduction to Supervising Learning and Assessment for Primary Care\u201d. This is a specific course for GPs. It\u2019s three days (face to face) with online work in between the course days (approx. 40 hours of learning in total). As you know there is a specific process to getting a place on this course and all cohorts for 2019-2020 are now full. If anyone would like to receive information on further cohorts from April 2020, the please email facultydevelopment.lase@hee.nhs.uk<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n Option 2:<\/strong> HEE will soon launch an inter-professional (three-day) clinical supervisors in primary care course. This course will be available to supervisors from across the professions in primary care<\/em> and will take place from January 2020. For those who want to attend this course, please email facultydevelopment.lase@hee.nhs.uk<\/a> to be a placed on the mailing list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Option 3:<\/strong> Complete an \u2018introduction to workplace learning and assessment\u2019 course provided by a different provider\/ organisation of their choice. You should however email with details of the course to ensure that the content meets the criteria for approval at \u2013 facultydevelopment.lase@hee.nhs.uk<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n Option 4<\/strong>: Specific for the roles of FY2 supervisor or out of hours supervisor \u2013 there is still provision of these specific courses if you wish to do these particular<\/em> educator roles. You should contact facultydevelopment.lase@hee.nhs.uk<\/a> for dates\/details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Option 5:<\/strong> It could be that you have completed a PG cert in education. If you have done this then you do not need to undertake any courses but again, you need to email the faculty with details of modules completed \u2018content etc at \u2013 <\/em>facultydevelopment.lase@hee.nhs.uk<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n Please see the documents below for full details of the options and FAQs, published by HEE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Once you have confirmation of acceptance on to the GP trainer course you are expected to the join your local trainers workshop and start attending by the time the course starts. Contact admin@newhamgpvts.org.uk<\/a> with your course start date so that you can be added to the trainers workshop email group and start to receive your invitations to the trainer workshops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Newham Trainers workshops are held every other month (odd numbered months). They are generally on the 2nd Thursday on that month but please refer to the workshop timetable which would have been sent to all trainers or calendar for the dates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The workshops are held to support local Newham trainers and provide a peer group meeting to discuss issues that relate to training and training practices. All trainers should be added to the mailing list to be kept informed of any updates and upcoming meetings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Trainers are encouraged to contribute actively and run some of the workshops.
