St Helens & Knowsley are two adjoining, vibrant towns about 6 miles apart in the exciting north west of England. They are both extremely well served by motorway and rail connections, with Liverpool only 20 minutes away and the centre of Manchester around 30 minutes by car. Liverpool\u2019s John Lennon International Airport is also in close proximity.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Housing and Schools<\/h3>

St Helens has a varied and growing residential sector \u2013 ranging from town centre apartments to urban villages and executive rural homes. There is also a good choice of property stock to rent.
Meanwhile, schools in the borough continually obtain strong exam results and have been experiencing year on year growth in performance levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abundantly green and well connected, Knowsley is a great place to set up home. From traditional properties to contemporary apartments; rural villages to modern developments, the range of available homes means that there is something to suit all preferences and budgets. The area also has a great selection of well-regarded schools to suit all ages and faiths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/a>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Tracks<\/h3>

Currently, GP training comprises of 18 months in primary care and 18 months in hospital posts.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where possible we like you to experience a 6 month GP post early in your training. This is to help you focus on what you would wish to get out of your hospital attachments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/a>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Allocating Tracks<\/span><\/summary>

When you have been successful in your application to come to the St Helens & Knowsley Scheme you will be contacted by Dr Peter Johnson, the Training Programme Director for that area. He will ask you to name your ideal 4 hospital posts to enhance your GP training. You may consider your previous experience when describing this – more weight would be attached to post-foundation experience.<\/p>

Dr Johnson will then try as much as possible, with the hospital posts available to him, to match your request. If there are not enough posts available in a particular speciality then priority will be given to the person with the higher recruitment score. We do our best when matching preferences.<\/p>

You may be eligible for accreditation of transferable competencies. To qualify, you must be transferring into general practice from one of the RCGP Approved Speciality Training Programmes<\/a><\/p>

If you intend to apply for less than full time training, you would need to apply formally using the HENW website.<\/a><\/p><\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n

Innovative Training posts<\/span><\/summary>

Innovative Training Posts (ITPs) are an option offering exposure to and experience in other environments whilst continuing to work in General Practice. Fifty percent of the working week is in General Practice and the rest in the ITP. Out of hours (OOH) and formal assessments will continue during these posts. In St Helens and Knowsley we have the following ITP Posts available: Palliative Care \u2013 Based at Willowbrook Hospice and Elderly Care \u2013 Based at Sherdley Medical Centre<\/p><\/div><\/details>\n\n\n\n

St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust provides a full range of acute healthcare services across two sites, at Whiston and St Helens hospitals, including inpatient, outpatient, maternity and emergency services.
