{"id":1963,"date":"2021-02-09T11:10:05","date_gmt":"2021-02-09T11:10:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gp-training.hee.nhs.uk\/manchester\/?page_id=1963"},"modified":"2021-05-07T11:32:02","modified_gmt":"2021-05-07T10:32:02","slug":"during-training","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/gp-training.hee.nhs.uk\/manchester\/training-guidance\/during-training\/","title":{"rendered":"What else to do during your training?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-nhsblocks-panel1 nhsuk-panel is-style-panel-with-label\"><h3><strong>Applied Knowledge Test<\/strong> (AKT)<\/h3><div class=\"paneltext\">\n<p>The current advice is that the AKT should be sat in the ST2 year.&nbsp;&nbsp; This ensure you should have familiarised yourself within a GP practice in ST1 or ST2 and leaves your ST3 year clear for the CSA and preparing for independent clinical practice.&nbsp;&nbsp; The following links provide useful information about AKT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcgp.org.uk\/training-exams\/mrcgp-exam-overview\/mrcgp-applied-knowledge-test-akt.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">RCGP AKT site<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcgp.org.uk\/training-exams\/mrcgp-exam-overview\/mrcgp-annual-reports.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Feedback from the RCGP on the AKT examinations<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Other useful resources:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcgp.org.uk\/training-exams\/mrcgp-exam-overview\/mrcgp-applied-knowledge-test-akt.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">http:\/\/www.gpstsociety.org.uk\/resources\/gp-training\/mrcgp\/applied-knowledge-test-akt<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<a class=\"wp-block-nhsblocks-nhsbutton alignright nhsuk-button\"><\/a>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-nhsblocks-panel1 nhsuk-panel is-style-panel-with-label\"><h3>Clinical Skills Assessment (CSA)<\/h3><div class=\"paneltext\">\n<p>Examination preparation tips:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Do a surgery with 10 minute appointments once a week for practice.<\/li><li>Allocate patients with specific problems to this clinic.&nbsp; Your trainer can identify specific cases or you can book people yourself, eg if someone says&nbsp;&#8220;by the way, can I talk about my knee?&#8221; you can book them in a 10 minute surgery to practice doing it in the time.<\/li><li>Make sure your normal surgeries are at least at 15 minutes.&nbsp; This allows time for preparation and typing up&nbsp;that you won&#8217;t have to do in the CSA, and therefore helps you to get through things in a relevant timescale.<\/li><li>Practice doing some joint surgeries with your trainer watching.
