Introducing Guildford GP Training <\/p><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n

Guildford Scheme GP Training Practices<\/h3>
\n

There are currently 17 training practices on the Guildford scheme where trainees may do their GP placements. Many are located in Guildford, while some are further south, as far as Haslemere and Cranleigh, while others are more towards London, such as Send, Bookham and Cobham. Each practice has its own website below.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

All the practices are totally committed to training, and the Trainers\u2019 group provides a supportive and forward thinking environment for teaching and learning.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Meet The GP Education Team<\/h3>
\n

\u200bSeveral key people make up the Education Team who support trainees throughout their GP training, such as the GP Training Programme Directors and the Medical Education Team.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The GP Programme Directors (TPDs) oversee all aspects of General Practice training from ST1 to ST3 including Less Than Full-Time Training (LTFT), organising Half Day Release (HDR) Teaching, Integrated Training Post (ITP) weekly tutorials, co-ordination of the Thursday GP Clinical Updates and managing all GP training rotations and Trainer and Registrar Groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Medical Education Team are part of Royal Surrey Foundation Trust and work closely with Human Resources, Medics Rostering, the Director of Medical Education and the GP Programme Directors.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Each trainee year group will elect a Trainee Representative to give feedback to the Faculty about the local programme.  At Guildford it has worked well when the GPST Representative has continued the role throughout their three training years.  This enables the group to remember who the Representatives are and enables the Representatives to learn how to do the role most effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The role of the GPST Year Group Representative is a key part of the feedback process. They gather feedback about the local programme and present this at the thrice yearly meetings of the Local GPST Faculty Group. It is the responsibility of the GPST Trainee Representative to share the relevant information and responses from the Local Faculty Group with their cohort. If the Representative is unable to attend the meeting, they must organise a deputy to take their place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LFG dates for 2025-2026: Thursday 20 November 2025, Thursday 26 March 2026 and Thursday 11 June 2026. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Placements at the Royal Surrey County Hospital<\/h3>
\n

The Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust (Egerton Road, Guildford, GU2 7XX) is a leading district general hospital. It has a specialist tertiary referral cancer centre providing care for patients from a large catchment area. Many surgical firms also offer complex surgery to patients from a wide area. There is an efficient, well run A&E department with separate medical and surgical assessment units. There are strong links with University of Surrey supporting academic excellence with an extensive education, training and research portfolio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
