Time taken OOP is defined in the Gold Guide<\/a>\u00a0sections 6. It is important to recognise that it is not a “right”, and that agreement depends on the practicalities of releasing a trainee from their rotation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Time OOP can in theory address trainees’ need in 4 ways:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. OOP training (OOPT) in which non-programme experience counts towards the award of a CCT \u2013 Not generally applicable to general practice<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    2. OOP experience (OOPE) in which a trainee gains valuable experience, but still needs in addition to complete a full 3 years of GPST<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    3. OOP research (OOPR) for research \u2013 usually towards a higher degree. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    4. OOP career break (OOPC) to spend time pursuing other interests or to meet (for example) a health or caring need<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Global Health Fellowship<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Global Health Fellows are deployed after satisfactory completion of ST\/CT2 for 4 – 6 months (OOPE) to clinical posts in South Africa, Namibia, Malawi, Zambia, Kenya, Uganda and Sierra Leone. Opportunities are limited but successful applicants will receive a \u00a31000
    per month stipend up to a maximum of 6 months from the NHS to cover living expenses and subsistence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Applications from August starting ST\/CT1s will also be considered for 2024\/25 deployments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The aims of the programme are to<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Improve health outcomes in resource poor African communities
    2. Contribute to the continuing professional and personal development of individual Doctors in Training (Global Health Fellows)
    3. Provide the opportunity for UK Doctors in Training to work overseas and learn from international colleagues
    4. Successful appointment as an NHS Global Health Fellowship with a lifelong commitment to Global Health
    5. Long term benefits to the NHS<\/p>\n\n\n\n
