Non-urgent advice: <\/span>Eligibility<\/span><\/span><\/h3><\/span><\/div>

All trainees are eligible to apply for less than full time working. Those wishing to do so must show that training on a full time basis would not be practical for them for well-founded individual reasons.<\/p>

The only requirement to be permitted to train less than full time is a well founded individual reason. Reasons for needing to train on a less than full time basis are put into two main categories for the purpose of assessing eligibility. However, these categories are not exhaustive.<\/p>

Category 1:<\/strong><\/p>

Those doctors in training with:
– Disability
– Ill health
– Responsibility for caring for children (men and women)
– Primary carer for ill\/disabled partner, relative or other dependent\u00a0<\/p>

Category 2:<\/strong><\/p>

Those doctors in training with:
– Unique opportunities for their own personal\/professional development (example: training for national\/international sporting events)
– Short term extraordinary responsibility (for example a national committee)
– Religious commitment\u2013involving training for a particular religious role which requires a specific amount of time commitment<\/p>

Non-medical professional development such as management courses, law courses, fine arts courses or diploma in complementary therapies.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Non-urgent advice: <\/span>How to apply<\/span><\/span><\/h3><\/span><\/div>

If you are planning LTFT work apply early (at least 16 weeks before starting work or your next rotation). To start the process complete and submit the LTFT application form<\/a> on the deanary website and communicate your plans with the postgraduate centre and the manager of the clinical team you will be working with as soon as possible. <\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Non-urgent advice: <\/span>How often to have ESRs?<\/span><\/span><\/h3><\/span><\/div>

You will need an ES meeting once every 6 months \u2013 irrespective of whether you are full-time or part-time. Arrange for the ES meeting at roughly month 4 or 5 for every 6 month segment of the post. This means that if you are doing a post for 1 year part time at 50%, you will need to have\u00a0two\u00a0ES meetings despite the fact that this is equivalent to one full-time 6 month post. All these ES meetings should be recorded as an ESR on e portfolio.\u00a0<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Non-urgent advice: <\/span>Working out ARCP date <\/span><\/span><\/h3><\/span><\/div>

You have one ARCP every year – either going to be in January or July. Prior to your ARCP\u00a0you need to make sure you have done the full requirement for that period i.e. CSR for each hospital post, self-rating, minimum number of assessments completed, learning logs etc. Remember there are some extra requirements for ST3. If you are due a CCT, please get your dates carefully worked out and get everything done \u2013 otherwise your CCT may be delayed!<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
