{"id":3051,"date":"2024-02-29T11:43:07","date_gmt":"2024-02-29T11:43:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gp-training.hee.nhs.uk\/bristol\/?page_id=3051"},"modified":"2024-03-21T10:50:06","modified_gmt":"2024-03-21T10:50:06","slug":"requirements-for-completion-of-training-and-working-as-a-qualified-gp","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/gp-training.hee.nhs.uk\/bristol\/requirements-for-completion-of-training-and-working-as-a-qualified-gp\/","title":{"rendered":"Requirements for Completion of Training and working as a qualified GP"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-nhsblocks-panel1 nhsuk-panel\"><h3>Requirements for GPs to work in the UK<\/h3><div class=\"paneltext\">\n<p>Along with a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), obtained via application to the GMC (see below for <a href=\"#CCT\">actioning an Outcome 6 following final ARCP<\/a> and further information on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcgp.org.uk\/your-career\/qualifying-as-a-gp\/cct-guidance#applyingcct\">RCGP website<\/a>) ahead of your final ARCP, all doctors require the following to work as a GP in the UK:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"#performers\">Registration on the National Performers List<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#CCT\">Registration on the GMC&#8217;s specialist GP register (having obtained CCT)<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medical indemnity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-nhsblocks-panel1 nhsuk-panel\"><h3>National Performers List<\/h3><div class=\"paneltext\">\n<p id=\"performers\">The following information has been sourced from Peninsula and Severn Primary Care Schools Team:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You are required to be included in the English Medical Performers List to work independently in NHS general medical practice in England. The regulations have been amended during the Covid-19 pandemic, such that GP Doctors in Training are <em><strong>NOT<\/strong><\/em> required to be on the Performers list, and only need to take action to join at the end of their training programme, as outlined below. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please apply at the right time, as applying too early will not lead to your joining the list, and will cause additional unnecessary administration for you and the supporting teams with whom we closely work. Please see below for specific guidance on this relative to your stage in training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is anticipated that upcoming changes to the Regulations will make this permanent, hence you should follow this advice until further notice:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-nhsblocks-panel1 nhsuk-panel\"><h3><strong>For STI and ST2 trainees:<\/strong><\/h3><div class=\"paneltext\">\n<p>Please <strong><u>do not apply<\/u><\/strong> to the Performers List at this stage.\u00a0 Due to the Covid-19 amendment to the Performers List Regulations, GP registrars are not required to be on the Performers List whilst in training.\u00a0 Whilst this is a temporary amendment, it is anticipated that upcoming changes to the Regulations will make this permanent.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-nhsblocks-panel1 nhsuk-panel\"><h3><strong>For ST3 trainees:<\/strong><\/h3><div class=\"paneltext\">\n<p>Your name <em>may<\/em> already be included on the List as arrangements may previously have been made for your inclusion on the List either before you started training or whilst you were in training, prior to the Pandemic rules.&nbsp; You can <strong>check <\/strong>if your name is already on the Performers List here <a href=\"https:\/\/secure.pcse.england.nhs.uk\/PerformersLists\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Search &#8211; Performers List for England<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you started your GP training before the 5th August 2020<\/strong>, please check that your name appears on the Performers List. If you are included on the Performers List, please only follow the guidance at the bottom of this section <a href=\"#nqgp\">For all newly qualified GPs<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your name is <strong>not<\/strong> already included on the Performers List you will need to apply <strong>3-6 months before your predicted CCT date<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>f the application is started too late, it may result in you not being able to work immediately as an independent qualified GP.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can start your PCSE Online application form here <a href=\"https:\/\/secure.pcse.england.nhs.uk\/_forms\/pcsssignin.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PCSS: Login (england.nhs.uk)<\/a> &nbsp;&nbsp;An application user guide, including information on how to register for an account and a list of documentation you need to upload as part of the application process, can be found here <a href=\"https:\/\/indd.adobe.com\/view\/4139f1e8-ecbb-4457-9b30-f398ea7e8cb8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Performer List Applicant Guide (adobe.com)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please note \u2013 it is essential that you apply to the Performers List as a GP Registrar and <u>not <\/u>as a GP Performer. &nbsp;This information is captured in the Capacity section of the application form.&nbsp; Please select Medical and then GP Registrar.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your completed application will be considered by your regional NHS England Performers List team and, once accepted, you will appear on the Performers List as a GP Registrar.&nbsp; You can change your Performers List status after qualification, as described below.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-nhsblocks-panel1 nhsuk-panel\"><h3><strong>For all newly qualified GPs:<\/strong><\/h3><div class=\"paneltext\">\n<p>Once you have your CCT, please log into PCSE Online and change your status to GP Performer.&nbsp; Further details of now to do this can be found here: <a href=\"https:\/\/pcse.england.nhs.uk\/help\/performers-lists\/general-enquiries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">General enquiries &#8211; Primary Care Support England<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s important to note that there are <strong>separate<\/strong> <strong>lists<\/strong> for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. In Scotland, each health board runs its own performers list and there is no central list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have any queries, please email:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"mailto:england.southwestperformerslist@nhs.net\">england.southwestperformerslist@nhs.net<\/a>&nbsp;<strong>or<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"mailto:england.gpassessment.sw@nhs.net\">england.gpassessment.sw@nhs.net<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-nhsblocks-panel1 nhsuk-panel\"><h3>How to action an Outcome 6 at final ARCP to obtain CCT<\/h3><div class=\"paneltext\">\n<p id=\"CCT\"><a>Once you have been issued an Outcome 6 at ARCP, once available on ePortfolio, please read through the ARCP form and sign it off as soon as possible to initiate the CCT process with the College.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcgp.org.uk\/your-career\/revalidation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">RCGP guide to Appraisal &amp; Revalidation<\/a>&nbsp;for newly qualified GPs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GPs wishing to start work as soon as possible should follow these steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;When you&nbsp;<strong>sign off your Outcome 6 ARCP form<\/strong>, it converts to a PDF and signals to the RCGP that they can check over your ePortfolio and make their CCT recommendation to the GMC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>Obtain a copy of your medical indemnity or insurance<\/strong>&nbsp;to show you are covered to work as a Locum, Salaried etc. this can be obtained from&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:kwalsh@mddus.com\">kwalsh@mddus.com<\/a>&nbsp;unless you made your own provision or are indemnified by an another provider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. &nbsp;&nbsp;When you have received your CCT from the GMC &amp; your evidence of indemnity or insurance visit&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/pcse.england.nhs.uk\/services\/performers-lists\/gp-performers\/gp-registrars-completing-training\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GP Registrars completing training &#8211; Primary Care Support England<\/a>&nbsp;website, where you can&nbsp;<strong>upload both certificates<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You will be able to start work once you have completed the online form and uploaded a copy of your Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) to PCSE.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have any queries regarding CCT, please visit the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcgp.org.uk\/training-exams\/discover-general-practice\/qualifying-as-a-gp-in-the-nhs\/certificate-of-completion-of-training-cct-guidance-for-gp-trainees.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">RCGP Certificate of Completion of Training webpage<\/a>&nbsp;&amp;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rcgp.org.uk\/your-career\/qualifying-as-a-gp\/cct-guidance\/training-guidance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">General Practice Specialty Training Guidance<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NHS England Revalidation &amp; Appraisal team will make contact with you shortly after your CCT date to facilitate your ongoing revalidation. This is because revalidation is based on a local evaluation of doctors&#8217; practice through appraisal.
