{"id":2712,"date":"2023-11-02T10:56:02","date_gmt":"2023-11-02T10:56:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gp-training.hee.nhs.uk\/bristol\/?page_id=2712"},"modified":"2025-06-03T10:05:19","modified_gmt":"2025-06-03T09:05:19","slug":"study-and-professional-leave-guidance","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/gp-training.hee.nhs.uk\/bristol\/gp-training\/trainees\/leave\/study-and-professional-leave-guidance\/","title":{"rendered":"Study and Professional Leave Guidance"},"content":{"rendered":"\n    <nav class=\"nhsuk-contents-list\" role=\"navigation\" aria-label=\"Headings on this page\">\n        <h2 class=\"nhsuk-u-visually-hidden\">Contents<\/h2>\n        <ol class=\"nhsuk-contents-list__list\">\n\n\t\t\t\n                <li class=\"nhsuk-contents-list__item\">\n                    <a class=\"nhsuk-contents-list__link js-scroll-to\" href=\"#nhs-block-anchor-1\">Study Leave for DiTs in GP Training<br><\/a>\n                <\/li>\n\n\t\t\t\n                <li class=\"nhsuk-contents-list__item\">\n                    <a class=\"nhsuk-contents-list__link js-scroll-to\" href=\"#nhs-block-anchor-14\">Professional Leave<\/a>\n                <\/li>\n\n\t\t\t        <\/ol>\n    <\/nav>\n\t\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"nhs-block-anchor-1\">Study Leave for DiTs in GP Training<br><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Trainees get&nbsp;<strong>30 days study leave<\/strong>&nbsp;per annum and days of&nbsp;<strong>attendance at half day release are deducted from this<\/strong>.&nbsp;This is generally in the order of 15 days per year, but the exact number and type of teaching sessions offered by each programme may vary.&nbsp;LTFT trainees are entitled to&nbsp;<strong>pro rata<\/strong>&nbsp;study leave time (i.e. a trainee working at 80% will be entitled to 24 days study leave per 12 months).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cat 1:<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Required within the curriculum<\/strong><br>Essential to achieve competences through their training programme or regional teaching.&nbsp; These courses will usually be fully funded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cat 2: Enhanced knowledge<\/strong>&nbsp;<br>Not recognised as a requirement for the trainee\u2019s curriculum, however activities will help the trainee complete parts of the curriculum. It is expected that those applying for these courses will have met their core curriculum competencies for their stage of training. These will be&nbsp;<strong>75% funded.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cat 3:<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Career Progression<\/strong><br>These courses should only be required at the latter stage of training. These courses should only be approved for funding if the trainee has achieved their core curriculum competencies for their stage of training.&nbsp;&nbsp;These will be&nbsp;<strong>50% funded.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Red:&nbsp;<strong>Courses not funded<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*All courses for which funding is being sought (excluding mandatory training and half day release course) should be on PDP and have ES approval and Category III also needs APD approval; it is expected that those applying for these courses will have met their core curriculum competencies for their stage of training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-file\"><a id=\"wp-block-file--media-57cb3ab6-2d15-49b6-8b14-acacc78773b1\" href=\"https:\/\/gp-training.hee.nhs.uk\/bristol\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/77\/2023\/11\/Study-Leave-traffic-light-doc-TPD.docx\">The contents of this page can be downloaded in a Word document form for reference from here.<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Please remember that all study leave needs to be applied for on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/accent.hicom.co.uk\/Portal\/Live\/Web\/\">Accent<\/a>. Please ensure requests are submitted 6 weeks ahead and&nbsp;<strong>BEFORE<\/strong>&nbsp;you pay for your course.
