Trainees are expected to be fully competent to work unsupervised in the Urgent and Unscheduled Care (UUSC) setting by completion of training. This now includes acute and out-of-hours (OOH) care within your GP practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

National UUSC guidance changed in August 2019 and continues to be updated. Please review the most up-to-date guidance here:

Guide for Trainees: First shifts in the out-of-hours service<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Induction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There are a few essential steps that need to be undertaken by trainees before they can book shifts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Complete the BrisDoc induction – at the time of writing this has been delivered to ST3s twice during the 2024\/2025 academic year. It can be completed online if needed here: https:\/\/www.radar-brisdoc.co.uk\/st3-induction\/<\/a> Password needed for access will be emailed out or can be requested by contacting brisdoc.gp-trainee@nhs.net<\/a>. Please note there is a form located on the induction page for you to self-certify completion of the induction which will be logged by the Brisdoc admin team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Complete the GPR registration form and the Equality and Diversity (E&D) monitoring forms. These are usually emailed out to GPSTs directly by Brisdoc. If you have not received this then please contact brisdoc.gp-trainee@nhs.net<\/a> and return the forms directly to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Set up your Rotamaster account of Brisdoc: once you have completed the above you will receive an email to your nhs.net inbox with a link to set up your Rotamaster login. Setting up the login is fairly self explanatory but will need to you to create a username and password.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Booking a shift<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

  1. Open your Brisdoc Rotamaster account https:\/\/brisdoc.rotamasterweb.co.uk\/<\/a>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Click on the \u2018Registrar Bookings\u2019 icon.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. You may need to change the Rota Group (left side of the page) from \u201cExternal – GP trainees\u201d to \u201cIUC Clinical Rota\u201d to see the available shifts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Please note that your first shifts must<\/strong> be booked as \u2018Osprey Court Training Hub GP\u2019. These can be filtered by clicking on the \u2018IUC Osprey – Training Hub\u2019 tab. These shifts will ease you into OOH working and you\u2019ll benefit from the direct supervision of an experienced OOH GP. Once you have built up sufficient competence and experience, you can progress to booking shifts with reduced clinical supervision.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Each shift has a green + sign and a box in the \u2018Request\u2019 column. Select these both to add the shift to your requests, then scroll to the bottom of the page and click the \u201cRequest Selected Shifts\u201d button.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. You should then get an email from Rotamaster confirming that you have requested the shift. You will then get further confirmation whether the request has been accepted or declined.
