{"id":2198,"date":"2021-01-26T10:04:23","date_gmt":"2021-01-26T10:04:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gp-training.hee.nhs.uk\/blackpool\/?page_id=2198"},"modified":"2021-01-26T13:54:21","modified_gmt":"2021-01-26T13:54:21","slug":"local-inductions","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/gp-training.hee.nhs.uk\/blackpool\/doctors-in-training\/foundation-trainees\/learning\/local-inductions\/","title":{"rendered":"Local Inductions"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Induction of new staff is&nbsp;<em>absolutely vital<\/em>&nbsp;to patient safety and we take it very seriously at Blackpool.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All new FY1s will attend the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gp-training.hee.nhs.uk\/blackpool\/doctors-in-training\/foundation-trainees\/induction\/\">Foundation Induction<\/a>\u00a0prior to starting their first day, plus a Local Induction to introduce a new starter into their department\u00a0<em>each time<\/em>\u00a0they rotate into a new placement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Local Induction is essential, in order to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Provide the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gp-training.hee.nhs.uk\/blackpool\/doctors-in-training\/foundation-trainees\/supervisors\/\">Clinical Supervisor<\/a>\u00a0with an opportunity to safely welcome new starters into their department<\/li><li>Orientate the trainee to how things are done, so that they can work safely and efficiently from day one<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Local Induction could be conducted on a one-to-one basis, or as part of a larger group, and will include some or all of the following criteria:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Orientation to the department<\/li><li>Outline of responsibilities<\/li><li>Team working structure<\/li><li>Departmental policies and clinical protocols<\/li><li>Weekly timetables \u2013 ward rounds, out-patient clinics<\/li><li>Rota and on call details<\/li><li>Annual, sick and study leave processes and expectations<\/li><li>Clinical supervision arrangements<\/li><li>Departmental training opportunities available<\/li><li>Audit<\/li><li>Procedure for consent, discharge summaries and reporting incidents<\/li><li>Sepsis policy<\/li><li>Plus more\u2026<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You should then complete the Local Induction form (specifically designed to each specialty) within the first week if possible, but definitely within two weeks, of starting your placement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gp-training.hee.nhs.uk\/blackpool\/doctors-in-training\/foundation-trainees\/meet-the-team\/\">Medical Education team<\/a>\u00a0will then record the completion of the form, including the date held, date submitted and Clinical Supervisor\u2019s name, to feed back to our Trust Training department.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p class=\"nhsuk-card__description\">Induction of new staff is&nbsp;absolutely vital&nbsp;to patient safety and we take it very seriously at Blackpool.
