{"id":2359,"date":"2021-09-08T10:38:35","date_gmt":"2021-09-08T09:38:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gp-training.hee.nhs.uk\/bath\/?page_id=2359"},"modified":"2024-02-01T11:29:12","modified_gmt":"2024-02-01T11:29:12","slug":"top-tips","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/gp-training.hee.nhs.uk\/bath\/training-programmes\/top-tips\/","title":{"rendered":"Top Tips"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>ST3 top tips<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Network\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"1\" style=\"list-style-type:lower-alpha\">\n<li>Your fellow ST3s are important to you<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make friends with each other, support each other, celebrate and commiserate together<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>SCA\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"1\" style=\"list-style-type:lower-alpha\">\n<li>Plan a significant treat or holiday when finished<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Study leave\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"1\" style=\"list-style-type:lower-alpha\">\n<li>Plan early and use<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exam time, special interests, GP updates,<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>e-Portfolio\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"1\" style=\"list-style-type:lower-alpha\">\n<li>Keep up to date<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On top of mandatory training BLS, safeguarding etc<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Start QIP early before busy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remember 2 MSFs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leadership is much more interesting that you think \u2013 be creative, recognise when you are leading (no matter how small this may feel) and reflect and learn from it<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Out of hours\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"1\" style=\"list-style-type:lower-alpha\">\n<li>Little and regular<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Claim travel expenses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Learn to be a GP\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"1\" style=\"list-style-type:lower-alpha\">\n<li>Consulting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Letters, results, tasks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Professional development<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Work life balance<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Career planning\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"1\" style=\"list-style-type:lower-alpha\">\n<li>Careers fayre is really helpful for getting head around topics like locuming, portfolio career, contracts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CV and interviews<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Look out for job adverts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make a plan about what work you want to do and where<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contract negotiation is normal, be bold.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Special interests eg contraception, minor surgery, joint injections, education \u2013 develop them now!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Last opportunity to be supernumerary.
